Segovia – Day Trip From Madrid

Segovia – Day Trip From Madrid

Segovia is a medieval town that can be visited on a day trip from Madrid. The old city and an aqueduct within the town was declared a  World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

The best part of the town is the Segovia Aqueduct which was built by the Romans. Aqueduct’s are structures build in ancient time to carry water over long areas. These aqueduct’s were build without the use of any modern tools ! This article gives a good overview of how aqueduct’s work.  The aqueduct is also a beautiful structure to look at and a phenomenal accomplishment of Roman Engineering ! The aqueduct was my favorite part of the day trip to Segovia !

The entire old walled town of Segovia is steeped in history ! Many of the buildings in the old town are quite old and provides a good view of the past !  There is a famous castle within the town called Alcazar of Segovia . Our tour included entrance to this castle. I recommend paying for the entrance to this castle. There are many interesting items in the castle and the view form the tower of the castle is stunning !  There is also a famous Cathedral and other older buildings .

I highly recommend the day trip to Segovia from Madrid ! I don’t think there are too many well preserved aqueducts in the world ! There is something incredible about seeing the aqueduct !I hope  you have a day or half a day to visit Segovia !The tour can be done in half a day .  The town also has many good restaurants and souvenir shops.
