Blue Lagoon – Iceland

Blue Lagoon is a geothermal spa located in Iceland ! It is a must visit on a trip to Iceland and the best time to visit it would be in winter !! Blue Lagoon is a man-made lagoon which is fed by the water output of the nearby geothermal power plant Svartsengi . The water is supposed to have medicinal properties. Whether that is true or not it is just a beautiful place and a unique experience !!

The Lagoon is located about 50 minutes from Reykjavik  – the capital of Iceland and about 25 minutes from the airport. I recommend renting a car – but if you are not comfortable driving there are many tour companies that offer tours both from the capital city and from the airport ! Some people  actually stop over for half a day or a day transit in Iceland on Iceland Air just to visit Blue Lagoon! Iceland is a beautiful place for a vacation – but if you don’t have the time, this is a perfect transit activity and you only need about a 10 hour transit to enjoy this activity during a transit ! Some people call this a tourist trap – I strongly disagree ! It is very much a recommended activity .

Make sure to book your ticket ahead of time, picking the time slot that you require. You can use the blue lagoon website to book the ticket. You must do this ! The time slots fill up .

The experience is like no other SPA experience. It is a magical and fun place ! You can swim around, put mud on your face/ body, drink ,  talk to people – can easily spend 3 to 5 hours in lagoon.

Enjoy your experience !
