Iceland Restaurant Recommendations

Iceland Restaurant Recommendations

Iceland is growing in terms of its restaurant scene and food offerings.

As we drove around the Ring Road we had a chance to try food at different towns . We didn’t eat at any high end restaurants simply due to cost . Also many restaurants close at  9 pm or 10 pm .

Vik

Smidjan Brugghus – We had a late dinner in Vik at Smidjan Brugghus . I had the vegan burger and it was excellent. Well made and fresh. Highly recommend this place for burgers . Burgers and Beer is all that they offer.  A burger is around $25 CAD.

Höfn

Hafnarbudin – We had dinner at this place. It is on the waterfront of the town of Höfn . Considered fast food . This restaurant even has a drive in. We had the fish and chips . Good food.

East Iceland

Subway – We ordered a few subs to spilt. I didn’t like the chicken sub, I thought the chicken tasted funny . The cold cut sub was good . I would skip it and maybe get a hot dog or something.

Myvatn

Skútustadir Guesthouse – Breakfast was included as part our stay at this farmhouse. The cheese, egg , jams were all fresh and home made . Great facilities. Best breakfast we had in Iceland!

Akureyri

Bryggjan – We had a pizza and garlic bread at this restaurant. The garlic bread was a cheese pizza . It was good pizza and the restaurant is beautifully decorated. It is by the water . Great place for lunch/dinner.

Berlin Cafe – This cafe was recommended to us by our host in Akureyri and it was a great recommendation. It’s a charming spot for brunch . They had unlimited coffee and it was excellent coffee. We had the Belgian Waffles and it was really good . I had three cups of coffee here !

Reykjavik

Devitos Pizza – This Place was open late and relatively cheaper compared to other options. We had a pizza and coke combo . Good pizza .

10-11

This is a 24 hour store . We had croissants and coffee here. The croissants were good, the coffee not so much .

Reykjavik Fish and Chips

I been to this restaurant the first time I visited Iceland and it was my favourite at that time. So decided to drop by here again. They had decent fish and chips. It wasn’t as good as I remembered but still a good option.

Noodle Station – We were staying right beside this restaurant and had to try it . It was good food – large amount of meat and flavour. Good choice if you are craving something with flavour.

Geysir Centre

We had daim ice cream at a cafe inside the Geysir Centre on our drive around the Golden Circle. Yummy ice cream . Do try it when you stop to see the Geysir on your tour .

Joe & The Juice

This is a cafe chain in Iceland. They have good coffee and amazing shakes. I wasn’t a fan of a avocado and tomato sandwich I had . It was too salty . I love their shakes and their colour scheme of bright pink !

Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur

Pylsur is Icelandic hotdog and is considered by some to be the best hot dog in the world . It is sold out of a red and white cart. This cart has been around for over 60 years. The hotdog is very good and my favourite part of it is the fried onions on it .Definitely have to try this if you are in Iceland.

Overall Iceland has many different food offerings! Do your research, accept the cost is going to hurt and enjoy the food !
