Exploring Old Philadelphia

We started our second day in Philadelphia and Fifth day on the trip with plans to explore Old Philadelphia.

Our hotel was with in the old town and all the historical things we wanted to see were within walking distance.

As we walked to the Center of the town we saw many historical buildings including the second oldest bank in America.

Old Philadelphia gives the sense of a old town vs a large city like New York .

The Liberty Bell Center

Our first stop of the day was The Liberty Bell Center . It is the home to the Liberty Bell – from the 17 th hundred, believed to have been around the time American forefathers singed Declaration of Independence. The bell came to symbolize freedom for different groups .

We took photos with the bell . There is no entree fee to see the bell . We did have to purchase tickets for a tour of the Independence Hall . The tour was for a set time so we decided to go get some lunch before the tour .

Sammy’s For Lunch

We walked to a place in the Old town called Sammy’s . This place had Philly Cheese steaks and my husband still wanted to try more cheese steaks .

The food turned out to be okay . Nothing overly special . The hubby preferred Geno’s & Pats for his philly cheese steaks .

Independence Hall

We went back and lined up to get on the tour . They were very strict with their timing . The security line was too long so we missed the start of our tour . Seemed like the tour started a bit early . Some others has also missed the start so they agreed to let us go with the next group . If you do the tour line up early so you don’t miss the start of your tour .

We had a good guide that explained the various areas of the Independence Hall . This is the building where where both the United States Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution were debated and adopted.

We even got to see the room where both documents were debated and agreed on . A rich piece of American History.

We made our way back to the hotel and packed up for our drive back to Washington. We were going to drive to the steps of The Philadelphia Museum Of Art . This is where Rocky was filmed . The steps rocky used to train .

Rocky Shooting Location ( Steps Of The Philadelphia Museum Of Art )

We were able to find parking without any issues and crosses the road to get to the steps .

Right before the steps there is a Rocky statue and there was a line to take a photo with the statue . We decided to indulge and lined up to take our photo with the statue .

Than my husband has his Rocky moment and climbed up the steps . He seemed to be happy and in his moment . We walked around the area and took some more photos before calling it a day .

The sun was setting as we started our drive back . We had one service Center stop . There was a really pretty red Christmas Tree at that service Center .

Thip Khao Restaurant – Laotian Restaurant in DC

In Washington we went directly to dinner . Hubby had picked out a Laotian restaurant. Found the food to be similar to Thai/Vietnam food . Good place and an enjoyable meal . I was just amazed with diversity in Washington’s dining options!

Capital Hill Building At Night

We decided to drive by and see the capital hill building before calling it a night . The Capital hill building is a beautiful sight at nighttime. Definitely worth making an effort to see it . See photos below.

Afterwards we called a night and went to our hotel to catch some sleep before our morning flight to Toronto.
