Top Things To Do In The Maldives

Top Things To Do In The Maldives

Summary :

If your resort is on its own private Island the activities you can do will be limited what’s on the Island and the trips offered by the resort . There are no boat shuttles between Islands – Especially the further the Island is from Male ( Capital) .

That aside some things you can do :

  • Snorkelling Excursion – (Recommend)
  • Spa/massages ( Recommend if you have the budget for it )
  • Sandbank trip ( Recommend )
  • Water sports (Recommend – it’s usually free )
  • Swimming /Beach ( Highly Recommend)
  • Reading/library ( Recommend )

Snorkelling

Our resort had a few Snorkelling excursions available . The prices were reasonable for Maldives . It was $75 USD per person.

We left for Snorkelling from the dive Center at the resort . It was just as and another couple . The guide was from the local area.

He pointed out other Islands as we made our way to the Snorkelling location . One of the Islands was where he grew up and it has now been abandoned due to government orders . Rising sea levels and consolidation of the population.

We saw Dolphins as we made our way . That was cool .

Dolphin Sighting In The Maldives

We jumped into the water once we got to the snorkelling location . Saw a lot of colourful fishes and other sea creatures.

I would rate this as second best for me after Hawaii . The quality of what you see can also depend on where your Island is located in the Maldives. Would still recommend doing a snorkelling excursion in the Maldives. Cost is not too high and enough colourful creatures to make the experience worthwhile.

Spa/Massages :

The SPA can be eye watering expensive. At our resort the massages were 200 USD per person for an hour . We still did a couple massage since our old bodies were sore .

Recommend it only if you need it or you can afford the splurge .

The experience was peaceful and the surroundings beautiful. The ladies who did the massage weren’t registered massage therapists . It was more relaxing than a technique based massage .

Sandbank Trip

All over Maldives are sandbanks . Shallow areas in the ocean that you reach by a boat and can have a picnic on , swim etc .

This excursion can be arranged by your resort. It cost around $400 USD . The price would depend on your resort . Since we spent our budget on massages we skipped this . We were also out of time . For two days we couldn’t do any of the excursions due to rough seas .

Highly recommend this excursion. We are saving it for the next time .

Water Sports

Our resort offered free snorkelling equipment. Jet ski etc cost money . I would say go for the snorkelling equipment. We were able to see fishes standing on the shores of the beach and sitting on the steps of our water bungalows .

Beach/Swimming

The Maldives has the beach of all the places I have seen . For more on why you can read this post I wrote about the beach .

Spend as much time as you can swimming and enjoying the turquoise water and white sand .

Reading/Library

I took like three books thinking I need reading materials in case I get bored during the 5 days . That was a mistake. It added unnecessary weight to my luggage !

The resort had an incredible library with books on all topics . Since the resort only opened a few months before we were there most of the books were brand new . For a book nerd this was like a dream come true ! My heart quickens anytime we walk by the library. I spend some time going through the books and borrowing a few to read on our deck . This library made our stay so much more special.

I recommend you reach out to your resort to see if they a library so you don’t end up lugging books around . Luggage costs are expensive and you don’t want to spend previous weight on books !

Conclusion

Overall we had incredible stay and were not even bored the slightest . The 5 days finished too quickly !
