Singapore- Accommodation, Transportation and Food

I decided to visit South East Asia this year . We flew in from Canada to Singapore for around $800 CAD with one transit . There are not many direct flights and Singapore is a good hub for flying in .

It was one of my favourite stops on this trip and I would visit it again .

Accommodation

We stayed at the Sheraton near Orchard Road ( shopping street of Singapore) . It was a beautiful hotel and near a subway station.

I recommend staying in this hotel . Don’t have your meals here – there are so many other alternatives.

Transportation

Use the Subway system as your primary method of transportation. You can even take the train directly from the airport to most locations.

Buy a day or 2 day or 3 day pass at the airport station . This allows you unlimited trips on the subway. Plan out how to get to different attractions using google map bus option and you are all set .

You can only buy the day passes at specific subway stations. Your best option is to buy it at the airport Subway station. It is in terminal 2 . If you are in a different terminal just take a inter terminal bus ( free between terminals) .

Another alternative is Grab ( Singapore ‘s version of Uber ) . You can download the app, however you will only be able to put your credit card once you are in a Country Grab operates in .

Food

Singapore has an amazing food scene with variety .

I didn’t like the Hawker Stands, could just be the ones I visited. I visited about three , you can find my detailed summary about Hawker stands here .

It is also known for amazing buffets . I tried the buffet at Pan Pacific Hotel and it has become my all time favourite buffet . More about it on its own post .

We also found good places to eat in little India etc . More about it on a latter post .Do your research online and find some places in different areas . Use your day pass to get there !

Other Tips:

  • It gets to be really hot so wear sunscreen and start your day early . Between 11 to 3 pm try to plan indoor activities.
  • No visa required for Singapore ( from Canada )
  • Singapore is expensive. I didn’t have much time to do shopping except gold . Will write a separate posting on that .
  • Most people speak English so you will not have a language barrier.
  • Everyone is polite and helpful

Overall – It has a lot to do for a small country. I would definitely go back !
