Angkor Wat Big Tour

Angkor Wat Big Tour

When you want to visit Angkor Wats you can choose to do it multiple ways . You can just visit one temple Angkor Wats or you can do a day tour or multiple day tours that cover multiple temples .

The common tours available are known as Small Tour and Big Tour .

Small Tour includes – Angkor wat , Angkor Thom ( Bayon, baphon, terrace of elephants and terrace of lapper king), Takeo, Taprom ( Tomrider) , And Banteay kdey.

Big Tour includes- Preakhan, Neak peon, Tasom, east mabon and prerup.

I have wrote dedicated blog posts for some of the larger temples . Angkor Wat , Angkor Thom, and Ta Prohm aka Tomb Raider Temple . For the rest of the temples I would cover it in this blog post .

If you are really short on time you can see most of the main temples in a day as part the Small Tour . It will give you a good sense of the Angkor temples .

My recommendation would be to take three days and see the temples at a relaxed pace . It does get very hot and trying to cramp everything in a day can be overwhelming.

The Big Tour gives you the chance to see five unique temples that are somewhat different than the small tour .

We actually missed one of the temples on the small tour the day earlier so we started with that temple – Banteay Kdey.

Banteay kdey

This temple is known as the Citadel of Monks . It was built in middle 12 th century to 13 th century.

It is less crowded compared to the larger more famous temples . Definitely worth visiting if you have more than one day for the temples .

Prerup

A Hindu Siva temple built in 961 AD . One of the oldest temples I had visited on my temple tours in Cambodia . The temple is built out of laterite and brick which gives it a reddish colour. Different than most of the other Angkor temples .

East Meabon

This temple is very similar to pre rub . Built around the same time ( 958 AD ) and of similar material . This temple when it was built was on an island. The river around it has now dried up . This was a Siva temple . It was one of the only temples that had statues of elephants.

Ta Som

This temple was built in the 11 th century and it was built by Jayavarman 7 th and dedicated to his father . This is another temple that is filled with overgrown trees .

Neak Pean

This was a very unique temple . It is located on an island and is surrounded by water . It is a very beautiful walk across a bridge to get to the temple . Very unique and definitely should be on your list if you have more than one day to see the temples.

Preah Khan

Preah Khan is the largest temple in the Big Tour . You have to walk for about 10 minuets to get to the temple and it has multiple entrances.

The temple also has many overgrown trees within the temple . I would say this is a better temple for over grown trees than the Tomb Raider Temple .

Definitely worth it to put it on your list for Day 2 Tour .

Overall I truly enjoyed the Big Tour on the second day . I would recommend buying a three day pass and exploring the temples at a easy phase .
