Fifty Minute Seaplane Ride
If your resort is far from Male ( Capital ) you need to catch sea plan . It is expensive but an incredible experience. Wrote a very detailed post about it here .
First View Of JW Marriott Maldives
We caught sight of the island from the sea plane ! It’s not very big and is surrounded by blue water all around . Was so excited to see the water bungalows from the plane . Been a lifelong dream to stay in one .
Incredible Welcoming Ceremony By The Staff – Including Live Music !
When you get off the sea plane there are about 30 staff lined up greet you . There are also staff playing live music ! So many smiling faces . After travelling for 24 hours you very much appreciate the warm welcome and it sets the tone for incredible staff hospitality!
Smooth And Efficient Check In Process
The check-in process was incredibly efficient. We did a quick stop at main reception before heading to our Water Bungalow!
Buggy Ride To Over Water Bungalow
The water bungalow was about a 15 minute walk from the main building . We didn’t have to walk at all . Our personal butler Fubu – whisked us away on a buggy . We had this buggy available on call . We just had to WhatsApp message or call Fubu and he would take us anywhere we wanted to go .
Incredible Complimentary Upgrade To Duplex Over Water Bungalow
We had booked this resort on points !! My husband has status with Marriott as such we were upgraded to a duplex over water bungalow. It had been a dream of mine to stay at a water bungalow and to get upgraded to a duplex water bungalow was just mind blowing!!
The water bungalow was beyond anything I could have imagined !! It was two stories , huge with inside/outside living . See videos and photos below . I love my husband!!
Complimentary Welcome Spread
We also had an incredible welcome spread setup by the staff . Including cheese , local sweets , champagne, fruits and healthy smoothies. The largest complimentary spread I have encountered to date .
The Clearest Blue Water
Our overwater bungalow was surrounded by the clearest blue water all around ! To sit outside and to watch the water while experiencing the breeze was such a serene experience. My excitement at being in the Maldives was at an all time high .
Lunch At Thai Restaurant Kaashi . Setup As A Tree House !
It was around 1.40 pm by the time we settled into our room . We called Fubu to catch a ride to our lunch restaurant.
We had lunch at Kaashi . The Thai restaurant on the resort . This restaurant was setup like a treehouse overlooking the ocean . Thai food was delicious. We would visit here many more times .
A Much Deserved Nap After 24 Hours Of Travelling
We caught a buggy back to our bungalow. By this time we were exhausted having travelled on four plane segments for over 24 hours . Both us settled in for a nap !
Late Night In Room Dining – Butter Chicken
By the time we woke up it was 10 pm ! We decided to order in room dining . Had butter chicken and fried rice . The cost of in room dining caused physical pain but was delicious.
We hung at on our very large patio taking in the breeze and the sound of the ocean before calling it a night .
Conclusion
It was a very magical first day ! Maldives and Overwater Bungalow exceeded my expectations at all levels . Once in a life time experience.
