One of the symbols of Venice is the Gondola. Some fundamental question you will come across when planning your Venice trip are :

1. Do I do a Gondola ride ?

Yes ! If you are visiting Venice it is a must do . There is nothing else like it in the world . Even if it is crowded and touristy there is something very exciting and magical about a Gondola. Seeing Venice from a small moving Gondola gives you perspective.

The city is over 1200 years and Gondola’s were used as a transport mechanism. There used to be over 10 000 Gondolas and now there are about 400 . By going on one you will also be supporting the locals !

2. Is it worth the money ?

It is definitely worth the money . A private ride cost 80 Euro . Can check current fares here . The cost is for the whole Gondola. Maximum 6 people per Gondola. So at maximum utilization it cost 14 Euro per person .

Also don’t book through the hotel or other agencies. They may add additional costs . You can easily book on the spot .

3. Do I do a private or public one ?

Highly recommend a private Gondola. Especially if you are a couple ! Definitely worth the money and memories .

4. Are there any suggestions to maximize the Gondola experience?

Try to do one first thing in the morning. They start around 10 am .

Evening rides are also beautiful, but they cost slot more ( 100 Euro vs 80 Euro ). If you are looking for a more romantic experience do the evening one !

Don’t expect your gondolier you sing . Some do but most don’t .

Don’t stress over how crowded it is and just enjoy the experience!
