Castle Of The Moors , Sintra , Portugal – ( Castelo dos Mouros)
The second most famous castle in Sintra is castle of the Moors . This is more of a traditional castle compared to Peña Palace and was built by the Moors in the 9th and 10 th century . You mainly have the castle walls left – which you can walk on – lots of stunning viewpoints.
The walls have a lot of steps – if you have a hard time climbing steps than you might not be able to walk the length of the wall .
Getting To Moors
We took an Uber from Peña Palace . You can also walk from Peña Palace ( 13 minutes) .
Tickets
We bought the tickets at the counter on the same day . Given the increase in Tourism would recommend buying the ticket online ahead of time .
Major sights to see
You can see what’s left of the castle under two hours . Majority of what you would see are the castle walls . You can walk around it . Really cool experience. It feels like you are very close to the sky .
From the walls there are views of Sintra all around . You get some amazing views of the Peña Palace and other famous sites .
There is also a small chapel .
Overall
We found this site to he less crowded than Peña Palace and a unique experience. Highly recommend adding this stop in your Sintra places to visit .
