Lisbon Hotel Recommendations – Where to stay in Lisbon ?

I been fortunate to visit Lisbon four different times over the last three years . We stayed in four different hotels – ranging from luxurious to clean and functional. My review of the hotels in the order of my preference .

Memmo Principe Real Lisbon Review – Marriott Design Hotel

Our first time in Lisbon we stayed at Memmo Principe Real a really nice Marriott design hotel located in a historic neighbourhood on a hill with stunning views .

Location

This hotel was located in a historical and popular neighbourhood called Principe Real in Lisbon. Historically, really wealthy people lived in this neighbourhood and now it’s home to lots of restaurants, stores and bars . The location is central and walking distance to many of the top attractions . It was perfect for our stay .

The hotel sits on a hill with stunning views of Lisbon and the Tagus river .

Room & Common Areas

The room was spacious, the linens soft , with a view of the city and free champagne and strawberries! The decor was modern and stylish.

The hotel has a pretty pool – we visited during peak Covid times and it was closed during our visit .

The restaurant and bar area are decorated beautifully and has tons of seating. My husband even worked one day from one of the tables .

Service

The staff was always friendly and happy to help . The hotel left us free champagne as a welcome gift which was much appreciated.

Food

There are so many restaurants and cafes just outside of the hotel that we never tried anything in the hotel in the five days we stayed in the hotel !

Overall

Overall we had an excellent stay . The location of the hotel can’t be beat and it was luxurious . Definitely made our first trip to Lisbon memorable and by far my most favourite hotel in Lisbon .

The Emerald House Lisbon Curio Review – Hilton Hotel

On our second trip we stayed at the Emerald House Lisbon . This is a boutique hotel located in a residential historic area . The hotel is very colourful with lots of velvet and design details .

Location

The hotel is located in a historical neighbourhood in the midst of residents in historic buildings , art gallery and restaurants. It’s about a 30 minute walk to what I would consider the core of Lisbon ( near the time out market ) . Ubers however are affordable in Lisbon compared to North America.

The area is quiet – in case you are looking for a peaceful stay .

Room & Common Areas

Similar to the rest of the hotel the room is also decorated in velvet and colours . The mattress and sheets were excellent.

The lobby of the hotel and the restaurant and bar all were beautifully decorated. Such a treat for the eyes .

Service

The staff was very friendly. The hotel offers a signature free cocktail for the guests and it was well made and delicious. The bartender who made the cocktails was very friendly .

Food

We had complimentary breakfast at the hotel . It looked nice but we weren’t a big fan of the taste . Would recommend to skip the breakfast and grab something outside.

The cocktails at the bar was excellent.

Overall

We enjoyed our overall stay . It is a good hotel if you are looking to stay in a quieter neighbourhood and don’t mind the 30 minute walk .

Sheraton Lisboa Hotel & Spa Review

On our third stay we stayed at the Sheraton Lisbon.

Location

The Sheraton is located in a residential/ commercial area about a 40 – 45 minute walk from the historical area .

It has restaurants and coffee shops around it .

Room & Common Areas

The room is functional, clean and of the standard you would expect form a Sheraton .

The hotel has a restaurant and a bar .

Service

The staff is helpful. It was raining one day and they had umbrellas.

Food

We had breakfast included at the hotel and weren’t a big fan . It’s sufficient if you are just looking for a quick bite .

There are good variety of restaurants around the hotel . We had South Indian food and pizza near by .

Overall

This hotel is a good choice if you are looking for an affordable option and don’t mind the walk/Uber ride to see the attractions.

Double Tree By Hilton Lisbon – Fontana Park

On our last stay in Lisbon we stayed at Double Tree By Hilton . It is located very close to the Sheraton.

Location

The Double tree is located in a residential/ commercial area about a 40 – 45 minute walk from the historical area .

It has restaurants and coffee shops around it .

Room & Common Areas

The rooms are clean and functional. The hotel is decorated well . The outside of the rooms are painted black . Funky vibe .

Service

The staff was friendly. No complaints about the service.

Food

We didn’t stay for long – it was a stopover. But from having stayed in the Sheraton before we know the area has a good variety of restaurants nearby . We had good South Indian food and pizza on a previous stay and there were some lovely cafes with good coffee .

Overall

I didn’t have a lot of expectations for a Double tree but was impressed by the hotel . This hotel was the best value for money we found in Lisbon.
